Professor Xoliswa Mtose, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Zululand (UNIZULU), has been invited to participate in the Nelson Mandela Centenary Celebration Conference that will be hosted by Haverford College in Philadelphia, United States on 28 and 29 September 2018.

Prof Mtose will join distinguished scholars from around the world as a speaker and panel participant. She will present on Mandela’s work from her expertise of race, racism and contemporary blackness in post-apartheid South Africa. Her talk is entitled: Black Peoples’ Lived Experiences of Everyday Racism in Post-Apartheid South Africa: What does Mandela Represent Today in the Face of Growing Everyday Racism?

Prof Mtose’s participation in this international scholarly engagement is firmly in line with the University’s transformation programme and strategy. She is advancing a higher education transformation agenda at an international level with the view to influence society and research and practice in the higher education sector. UNIZULU defines transformation as contextual responsiveness to local and regional development needs of communities by producing the required intellectual capital (graduates, research, technology transfer and societal intellectual engagement) that advances public good, brings about social redress and advances economic wellbeing of civil society.
