APPOINTMENT – DEAN OF STUDENTS

The University of Zululand (UNIZULU) is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Temba Hlasho,who assumed the position of Dean of Students on 1 November 2019.

Mr Hlasho reports directly to the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Institutional Support, Professor Seepe. His duties include overseeing the six sub-divisions under student services these include; student housing, campus health clinic, sports and recreation, guidance and counseling, student governance (societies) as well as providing support for students with disabilities with an ultimate goal of enhancing the student’s experience.Enhanced student life activities will help strike a balance between academic
and extra-curricula projects.

He brings to UNIZULU work ethos where he will build open dialogue relationships with student bodies to better understand their plight, this will be a leveller for enhanced positive working partnerships with colleagues in finding effective student solutions. Hlasho’ s career in higher education span over 25 years. He started at the-then Port Elizabeth Technikon as Head of a student residence in the 80’s. He then moved to the Vaal University of Technology where he was appointed as Director of student residences. In 2014, he moved to Cape Peninsula University of Technology as Head of Residences. In 2017, he moved to University of Freestate in Student Affairs QwaQwa campus as Director of Student Affairs.

Mr Hlasho is happily married with four children.He is currently pursuing his doctoral degree in sports science. For over three decades, he practised Judo, in 2016,he received his fifth Dan black belt. Since 2012, he has served as the President of Judo South Africa which is a pinnacle in the sport he has particpated in for over 30 years.
