Commitment Sets Top Achiever Nhlanhla Apart from the Rest

As graduating students, we have all met the minimum requirements needed to be granted our respective qualifications, however, one of the key ingredients that determines how we perform is commitment.

This is according to Nhlanhla Justice Mavuso who was one of the Top Achievers in the University of Zululand’s Arts Faculty’s Graduation Ceremony which was held as part of the University’s Graduation Ceremonies 2017 which kicked off on Monday, 8 May 2017, and will end on Friday, 12 May 2017. Mavuso graduated with his Batchelor of Library and Information Science degree.

“I’m very humbled that I performed this well,” said Mavuso. “It’s something I wanted so much. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting it (being a Top Achiever). My first semester (during first year) didn’t go so well be because of silly mistakes on my part. However, I quickly realised where those mistakes were being made and I corrected them”, said the 36-year-old from Mpumalanga who made studying his number one priority since his arrival at university.
“I spent a lot of time during my diploma studies focussed on my books and this focus did not falter throughout this time,” he said.

He advised other students to have fun but remember what brought them to university. Ä lot of students in university don’t achieve what they came to university for because of partying and other activities that don’t add value to their studies. Have fun, but that shouldn’t be your first priority,” he said.
